What to do if you have gap or drop ?

Due to Joint Entrance Exam for IIT’s many people take one year drop to either go to Kota, Delhi or join some other coaching institute. Now you may or may not get succeed in cracking JEE with good rank but when sitting for placements, this thing will always haunt you that what will you say if the interviewer asks you why there is a gap of one or two year in your academics ? From my expereince, I feel we can divide all the companies into two categories,
One, the big MNC’s whom I feels are bothered not at all of any kind of “yearback” in your studies. Even if they ask you than you can safely say that you were preparing for JEE and that’s it. No further questions will be asked and I don’t think so that this will give any negative impression.

But than there are companies like Infosys,TCS,Wipro and Satyam which are very particular about this and they ask you to fill a form about gap in studies and you may also get rejected on this ground. Kind of silly as they hire combined 20,000 per year and than rejecting a good candidate on the grounds that he has a drop!

Anyway so if you have gap in studies, you should follow these things -

1. Do not mention and information related to gap in your resume. No need of writing when you passed your higher secondary(12th) as well. No need of writing your birth year as well(if you feels it can create
suspicion in recruiters eyes).
2. Be prepared for the questions and with proper answer and explaination.
3. There is no need to tell lies, just hide some information which can go against you. Do not start telling nonsense stories, you will be harming your chances seriously.
4. Let’s be just realistic, you can not do much if the recruiter has decided to not to take you on the grounds
of a year gap. If you are good than you can easily make into other companies.
